Sur de Los Andes
With
the opening of Sur de los Andes winery,
Guillermo Banfi takes the next and most logical step in the evolution
of his goal: the creation of a high quality, boutique winery dedicated
to producing affordable wines. The
young Guillermo Banfi spent 10 years in banking and finance, training
in Buenos Aires, New York and London, acquiring both business experience
and a taste for fine wine. The taste for wine quickly turned into
a passion and he decided to leave banking and dive headfirst into
the wine industry.
His first venture was as co-founder of the Cinco Tierras
label in 2001, where his first vintages met with immediate success
in Argentina, France, Peru and Brazil. In 2004, they burst onto the
scene in the United States. In October 2005, Guillermo Banfi sold
his stake in Cinco Tierras and launched his personal project, Sur
de los Andes, bringing on board Cinco Tierras' winemaker, Pablo Durigutti.
Sur de los Andes is, at the moment, focused in the
U.S. market. Recent reviews in Wine
Enthusiast rated Sur de Los Andes wines 85-89
points, and
named them "Best Buys."more >>
Wines
of Spain
Spain has always made lots of wine. In fact, Spain has more land under the vine
than either France or Italy. However, the past several years have seen an amazing
effort on the part of the Spanish wine industry to raise quality and find an
international audience.
A new generation of Spanish winemakers, many
of them trained abroad, is using cutting-edge winemaking techniques,
and experimenting in new regions to bring Spanish wines to global
prominence.more >>
